ROUGH SEAS

I NEED HELP

When your child is struggling with something – when they are worried, frightened, lonely, angry, bored, confused, frustrated, sad, tired, or uncomfortable – we could say they are in rough seas.

Rough seas is any time things feel difficult from your child’s unique point of view in this moment, even if it’s not difficult or worrying for anyone else. (And even if this same thing is not difficult for your child at other times!).

These are the times your child needs you to guide them back to you (their safe harbour). Sometimes you’ll find they need your soothing, or your help solving a problem. Sometimes (probably a lot of the time) they just need you to ‘be there’.
